PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) — The U.S. Golf Association says it will be handing out vouchers for a free bottle of water at the U.S. Women's Open tournament in Pinehurst this week.
The National Weather Service says high temperatures are expected to be in the upper 90s Wednesday and when play begins Thursday. Temperatures should be in the mid-90s Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The USGA said hydration stations are being set up around the Pinehurst No. 2 course. Designated air-conditioned cooling sites and first aid stations will also be available around the course.
The men's tournament was held on the same course last week. More than 100 people were seen at the first-aid tents on June 9, mostly for heat-related problems. Four people were sent to the hospital.
