SHAWNEE (AP) — A decomposed body has been found off a Pottawatomie County road near Shawnee.
Undersheriff Travis Palmer says Oklahoma Natural Gas crews were working in a remote area Tuesday when they found remains about a quarter-mile from the road.
Palmer told the Shawnee News-Star the body is believed to be that of a male, but no identification could be made. The State Medical Examiner's Office will determine the person's identity as well as perform an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
Palmer estimated the body had been there two months or longer. He says if it weren't for utility workers walking through that area, the remains might not have been located.
