Utility to test sirens at Harris Nuclear Plant

Associated Press Published: October 9, 2012

NEW HILL, N.C. (AP) — Life will be a little noisier over the next several weeks for people who live near the Harris Nuclear Plant in New Hill.

Beginning Tuesday, Progress Energy will test the public alert notification sirens between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays. The tests will be conducted at full volume and last five to 10 seconds.

Progress says it has no specific times when residents of Chatham, Harnett, Lee and Wake counties will hear the sirens.

The tests are conducted annually to make sure each siren works properly following maintenance.
