Vacation Bible school at Edmond church remains popular draw

Peace Lutheran Church's vacation Bible school filled a month in advance with children from the Edmond area.

— Children walked through a doorway filled with floating bubbles, created root beer floats and crafted colorful windsocks.

Each part of the recent vacation Bible school at Peace Lutheran Church connected in some way to the program's theme “Sky: Everything is Possible With God,” based on Mark 10-27:

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.'”

Julia Cohlmia, the church's director of children's ministry, said about 230 children participated in this year's Bible school at the church, 2600 E Danforth Road.

She said the summer program attracts many families each year. Cohlmia said the Bible school, held June 25 through 29, filled up so quickly this year that the program was full about a month in advance.

Church volunteer Mary Kay Schroeder shared similar sentiments.

“This is always packed every summer,” she said as she looked around at children filling up the church's pews for the opening session.

Cohlmia said about 90 church volunteers like Schroeder helped set up the camp and kept things running smoothly as groups of children rotated to Bible story time, a craft station, snack preparation and other activities.
