BURLINGTON -- One of five students named valedictorian for Burlington High School was seriously injured in a four-wheeler accident a week after graduation.

The Alva Review-Courier reports that Brandon Gosselin is recovering in a Kiowa, Kan., hospital after the incident on a ranch in Kansas.

The newspaper said Gosselin and friends were camped out on the ranch and some of them had gone to play basketball in Amorita.

That night, when they were returning to the campsite, Gosselin was driving and two friends were riding on the vehicle with him.

They were on a county road when a deer ran in front of them and they collided.

The two with Gosselin were treated and released at the hospital but Gosselin's injuries were more serious.
