Most fans of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight” saga have probably read "Breaking Dawn” (Hachette Book Group, $22.99), which shares the continued adventures of Isabella "Bella” Swan and her vampire next door, Edward Cullen.

For those who haven't read this fourth book in the saga, it's OK to delve in. Meyer does a nice job of tying up some loose ends.

The story unfolds on the eve of Bella and Edward's wedding. Edward's charming vampire family and friends and Bella's human parents and school chums attend. The book doesn't get far before Meyer quickly livens up things with the appearance of a surprise guest.

As usual, Meyer tells the romantic story of Bella and Edward against the backdrop of the supernatural history of the town of Forks and the nearby Indian reservation. That one bleeds into the other has made these tales much more than typical boy-meets-girl stories. They are boy-meets-girl stories with bite, a la horror author Stephen King.

After Meyer drops a bombshell regarding Bella's spurned werewolf suitor, Jacob Black, the history regarding the neighboring vampires and werewolves becomes even more significant.

Judging from some of the comments on Internet fan sites, numerous readers are unhappy with the way Meyer solved the great Bella and Edward vs. Bella and Jacob debate. However, they can't deny that Meyer ties Jacob to Bella forever.

The Jacob twist is weird, true enough. But the whole series is weird. In that sense, what would have been normal?

Meyer has said more related stories are forthcoming, just not told from Bella's perspective.

I read "Twilight,” the first book in the series, for fun after my niece gave it to me to read during a plane trip. The books are geared for teens, but the entire saga provides enough suspense to keep adults intrigued.
