Vegetarians, vegans be warned: E. coli outbreak in hummus, walnuts and dips

by Richard Hall Published: May 23, 2014

Earlier this week a ground beef recall weighing in at 1.8 million pounds happened due to some nasty E. coli. Now that recall is about to gain some weight thanks to contaminated hummus, walnuts and other dips.

CNN reports folks in Idaho and Washington have gotten sick from eating raw clover sprouts, and walnuts sold in Missouri and Illinois are also culprits spreading the bacteria.

As far the hummus goes:

Hummus and dip products totaling about 14,860 pounds are being voluntarily recalled by Lansal Inc. amid concerns about possible bacterial contamination.

So, FYI, everyone (not just vegetarians and vegans, of course).
