VELMA — A road in Velma will be renamed in honor of a 16-year-old who was killed last month.

A local television station reports that the Velma city council and mayor have voted to rename the road in honor of Braylee Henry. The city leaders made the decision after residents presented a petition with more than 600 signatures in favor of the move.

The city hopes School Road will soon be known as Braylee's Way. The road runs on the west side of the Velma-Alma school grounds. Residents who live in the road approved the change, even though they'll have to change their addresses.

Henry was found dead last month in a secluded area near Velma. A convenience store clerk, Miles Bench, is charged with first-degree murder in her death.
