AJACCIO, France (AP) — Veteran Romania forward Adrian Mutu has left last-place Ajaccio after terminating his contract with the French club.

Ajaccio says an agreement was reached by mutual consent and that Mutu is free to join another club, with Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti a possible choice.

The 35-year-old Mutu scored 11 goals last season to help the Corsican side stay in the first division, but the former Juventus and Chelsea striker has struggled for form this season, failing to score in nine games.

Ajaccio said 20-year-old left back Stefan Popescu has also left after terminating his contract.
