CHICAGO (AP) — The National Veterans Art Museum will participate in Smithsonian magazine's 9th annual Museum Day Live! this month.
Smithsonian is trying to make learning opportunities more accessible. Participants are allowed to enter museums for free across the nation on Sept. 28.
The veterans art museum is always free. But officials say they're excited to be part of the festivities.
The museum recently opened "The Things They Carried Interactive." It's a website designed to make the arts and history of the museum's permanent exhibit — based on Tim O'Brien's book — widely available for free.
Other current exhibits include "Not About Bombs" by female Iraqi artists and "Tenacity and Truth" featuring artists from World War II, Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam and the Iraq War.
