NORMAN — An exhibit of Victorian children's books from a private collection is on display in the Reading Room Gallery through July at Norman Public Library, 225 N Webster. The exhibit is sponsored by the Baha'i communities of Norman and Moore.

The display is open during regular library hours 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Children's books published during the Victorian Age, 1831-1901, were designed to inspire and delight rather than to instruct and inform, thereby creating a new genre in literature. The books are typically illustrated with full-color drawings.

"These books are awe-inspiring in their beauty and design,” said Susan Gregory, branch manager. "We are especially proud to provide display space for public viewing of this collection.”

Many new children's book authors emerged during this period.

The Norman Public Library is part of the Pioneer Library System. For more information, call 701-2600 or go to www.justsoyouknow.us.
