Q: Enclosed is a photo of my Victorian pedestal, pressed glass fruit bowl. It stands approximately 9 inches tall with a diameter of 8.5 inches. The pattern is Daisy and Button, and I think that it was made about 1900. Am I right? I recently picked it up at an antiques shop for $18. It is in perfect condition.

Could you please tell me its age and value?

A: You have a nice example of Early American pressed glass. The Daisy and Button pattern was made by several glassmakers in the 19th and 20th centuries. Your pedestal fruit bowl was often used as a centerpiece on a Victorian era dining table.

It was probably made by Hobbs Brockunier around 1880, and its value would be in the $75 to $100 range.

Q: This mark is on the bottom of a blue-covered dish that I bought at a yard sale. The dish is 6 inches long and 3 inches high. There is a recessed handle on the lid.

What can you tell me about it?

A: Hall China Co. produced a line of refrigerator and ovenware for Hotpoint. They have been making china in East Liverpool, Ohio, since 1903. The Hotpoint sets included several leftover dishes and water servers in a variety of colors; they are popular with collectors.
