Grammy- and Oscar-winning superstar Cher revealed this morning on the “Today” show that she will kick off her 2014 “Dressed To Kill” North American tour March 22 in Phoenix, Ariz., with stops in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Las Vegas and other major markets
The 49-city tour will include a March 29 concert at Tulsa’s BOK Center. Ticket prices and on-sale date have not yet been announced, according to the venue.
American Express Cardmembers can purchase their tickets to select cities before the general public beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 30, through 10 p.m. Oct. 3, according to a news release.
For all online tickets purchased (presale and general public), ticketholders will receive a free copy of Cher’s new album “Closer To The Truth,” out Tuesday on Warner Bros Records.
The day before the official release of her 26th album and her first record in nearly a dozen years, Cher performed “Woman’s World” and “I Hope You Find It,” the first singles from the new album, on “Today.”
“I’m just not a huge Cher fan,” Cher said about the new album. “Having said that, I think it’s good.”
The singer, 67, admitted she doesn’t like the mechanics of touring, but said her fans make it worth all the hard work.
“The road is horrible, but the concerts are great,” she told “Today’s” Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. “I understand why guys in bands tear up hotel rooms and throw TVs out the windows, because it’s a very lonely place. The only time you have fun is at the concerts.”
Cher’s previous tour “The Farewell Tour” later dubbed “The Never Can Say Goodbye Tour” was one of the most successful tours ever by a solo artist and played for a record-breaking 325 dates and seen by more than 5.5 million people, according to the news release.
Along with her “Today” show appearance, Cher is in New York this week celebrating the album’s release with upcoming appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman” Tuesday and “Live! with Kelly & Michael” on Oct. 1. Cher also will be appearing as a mentor for Oklahoma country music superstar Blake Shelton’s team on NBC’s “The Voice.” The fifth season of “The Voice” premieres at 7 tonight on NBC, with the Battle Round episodes featuring Cher airing in October.
