Check out this new “First Look” at “The Sound of Music Live!,” starring Checotah native Carrie Underwood as Maria and “True Blood’s” Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg Von Trapp.

The new preview features snippets of Underwood crooning “My Favorite Things,” dueting with Moyer on “Edelweiss,” and belting “Do-Re-Mi”

“Maria and I actually share a lot in common. She’s a very faithful woman, which I feel like I am as well. She loved singing. She just loved being free,” Underwood says in the clip.

The three-hour live production will air Dec. 5 on NBC.

“The Sound of Music Live!” also features Audra McDonald (“Private Practice”), who has won five Tony Awards and two Grammys, as Mother Abbess; Tony Award winner Christian Borle (“Smash”), who will portray von Trapp family friend Max Detweiler; and Tony winner Laura Benanti (“Go On”), who will portray Elsa Schrader, the captain’s one-time fiancee.

The live holiday spectacular is based on the original 1959 Broadway production of “The Sound of Music,” starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel.

The music and lyrics for “The Sound of Music” were written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, respectively, with a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The iconic story centers on a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a widowed naval officer.

“The Sound of Music Live!” is executive produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford serve as co-directors. “The Sound of Music Live!” is produced by Universal Television.

“The Sound of Music: Music from the NBC Television Event” is available for pre-order and set for Dec. 3 release.

The soundtrack features studio recordings of all the musical numbers performed in the live broadcast, including Rodgers and Hammerstein favorites “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “Do-Re-Mi.”

A clip of Underwood singing “Do-Re-Mi” also appears in this NBC music video featuring Mike Tompkins, Chester See and fan submissions:
