As previously reported, Oklahoma meteorologist Gary England appeared on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central.

After 40 years on the air, England gave his final 10 p.m. forecast and signed off as chief meteorologist of KWTV-9 last week. He is taking on a new role as vice president for weather development at Griffin Communications.

The Seiling native has recently been featured in the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, too. England will be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Nov. 7 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

Colbert playfully dubbed England a “cloud jockey,” asked the meteorologist to point out Tornado Alley on a weather map and queried why anyone still lives in Oklahoma once England described the record-setting May 31 twister that hit the El Reno area.

“Well, that’s just occasionally,” England said to the crowd’s laughter.

Colbert also asking England why the sun wears sunglasses on weather maps.

“The Earth should wear the sunglasses,” Colbert asked. “It’s like an oven wearing oven mitts.”

Finally, Colbert decided that England needed a weatherman name like “Sleet Thunder-slush” or maybe “Windy Rains,” after two of the Emmy winner’s favorite weather patterns.

“Actually, you’d sound like a stripper,” Colbert said, thankfully rethinking that last one.

In all, the almost five-minute segment showcased England’s down-home charm and forecasting expertise, the qualities that have made him such a favorite among Oklahomans for all these years. Here’s the video:
