It wasn’t Russell Westbrook against Rocky the mascot. Nothing is or ever will be.
But Thunder coach Scott Brooks’ displeasure with a Jazz fan and his method of distraction on Tuesday night provided for some brief and hilarious theatre.
It went down in the fourth quarter, during the Thunder’s parade to the free throw line. As Reggie Jackson toed the stripe, an apparently well-known Utah heckler tossed a rubber basketball-shaped mask in the air right behind the hoop.
Jackson, a career 85 percent free-throw shooter, missed the shot (which you can’t see in the video below), and Scott Brooks lost it (which you can see), bursting in from the sideline and earning one of the most animated technicals of his career.
In the grand scheme, this had little to no impact on the game. The Thunder lost by 11.
But it was pretty funny. And it presents the question: Would Scott Brooks’ head explode if the Thunder-Jazz game was moved onto the Utah State campus and his free throw shooters had to face this guy?…
