Grammy-nominated Oklahoma singer-songwriter John Fullbright performed two songs live at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, for the “Jam in the Van” series.
In his return session for the series, the Bearden resident performed “She Knows” and “High Road,” two tracks from his highly anticipated sophomore album “Songs.” MP3s of all three songs are available for download if you register for the site; to do so, click here.
May 27 is the official release date in the US (the album will be released in the UK the following week), but as previously reported, he will play his Oklahoma City-area album release show May at Mitchell Hall on the University of Central Oklahoma campus. The show will feature an opening songwriter-in-the-round show with Michael Fracasso and fellow Oklahoman Tom Skinner.
Also, Fullbright will play a Saturday show at the Guthrie Green in Tulsa.
The Wall Street Journal’s Jim Fusilli already has declared “Songs” “a warm, winning and plainspoken Americana album that builds on the authority and charm of ‘From the Ground Up’ not by musical-muscle flexing, but by its clarity and simmering intensity.”
The new recording showcases the strongest songwriting of the 25 year-old’s career and follows the breakout success of his 2012 debut “From the Ground Up,” which was nominated for the Best Americana Album Grammy, made my top 10 albums of 2012 list and was featured in the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, NPR, The Oklahoman and more.

Fullbright is scheduled to visit me here at our NewsOK studios today for a photo shoot, video interview and acoustic performance. I’ll be bringing you what he had to say and sing very soon in The Oklahoman, NewsOK and here at BAM’s Blog!
