VIDEO: Kevin Durant tells story of his first meeting with Steph Curry

On Tuesday afternoon, Kevin Durant was among a star-studded NBA panel, answering questions alongside Steph Curry, James Harden and Anthony Davis at NBA 2K’s Uncensored event.

Durant talked about a variety of topics, including his decision to withdraw from Team USA, the idea of coaching challenges being implemented in the NBA and where his scoring prowess ranks among today’s greats. You can read the highlights by clicking here.

But within the question-and-answer segment, moderated by TNT’s Ernie Johnson, Durant may have also provided the funniest moment of the night.

Asked by Johnson about the first time he met one of the other star players on the panel, Durant recalled an AAU showdown with Steph Curry from back in the day.

“I was about 10 years old and our AAU team drove down to Charlotte,” Durant said. “There was this one (kid), I thought he was white…”

The panel, including Curry, immediately busted into laughter at the comment.

“This yellow kid, right” Durant continued. “Lets be be real now, right. Where I come from, those are light-skinned guys, and we’re all like me. I step in the gym and all these guys are stepping up from halfcourt with the jump shot, and I’m like, ‘he’s not making this.’ Splash. When we played (Curry), he only had like 35 and he was 10-years-old. And I was like, ‘Who is this’? Ten years later, it’s like, ‘Whoa, that’s Steph Curry.’”

“It’s crazy how you cross paths with these guys and you’re kids and don’t know,” Durant concluded. “And then once you (know them), it’s like ‘Wow, it’s pretty cool to see him at that age.’”
