The Rolling Stones are wrapping the North American leg of their “50 & Counting” tour with a sold-out show tonight at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
The tour started in Paris and London last fall and is celebrating the seminal band’s 50th anniversary.
The Stones have done duets with a wide range of special guest stars in the course of the tour. Some of the all-star guests during the North American trek include Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Sheryl Crow, Dave Grohl, Tom Waits, Taj Mahal, Keith Urban, The Black Keys and Taylor Swift. Brad Paisley and Aaron Neville were the guests for last week’s Philadelphia stops.
After wrapping her 110-city “Blown Away Tour” in Abbottsford, B.C., in May, Checotah native Carrie Underwood made a detour in Toronto to sing with the Stones before heading home to Nashville. She joined the band May 25 as a surprise guest performing “It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll (But I Like It).”
After the performance Carrie tweeted (@carrieunderwood), “I just sang with the @RollingStones! Holy cow! I walked off stage and said, ‘What just happened?!’ Still can’t believe it! ”
After tonight’s show, the Stones are playing the Glastonbury Festival Saturday in the U.K. They will finish off the tour with sold-out July 6 and 13 shows in London’s Hyde Park.
