Season 6 of the hit reality TV show “The Voice” premieres at 7 p.m. today and Tuesday on NBC,with Season 4 coaches Shakira, Usher, Adam Levine and Oklahoma country music superstar Blake Shelton back in the big red swivel chairs.
As usual, the coaches will open the show performing together, and this time, they will be singing a medley of each others’ hits, as we can see in this NBC preview video.
Shelton opens it up singing Shakira’s English breakthrough single “Whenever, Wherever,” before the Colombian superstar shifts to Shelton’s country chart-topper “Boys ‘Round Here.” Then, Usher and Levine take over with Maroon 5′s “Love Somebody,” with the quartet closing it down by belting the chorus of Usher’s “Without You.”
I actually preferred the Season 4 coaching panel that debuted last year over the original panel of Shelton, Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green. It looks like we won’t be seeing that panel again, since Green told Ellen DeGeneres on an interview last week that he won’t be returning to the singing competition.
“I don’t want to wear out my welcome there,” Green said.
CeeLo said he has many other projects he wants to take on and noted he hasn’t released an album in about four years.
“I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC,” added Green, who is preparing to tour with Lionel Richie. “I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year.”
Xtina will probably have to be considered questionable for “The Voice” coaching duty at some point in the near future, as People has confirmed that the singer is expecting a baby with fiancé Matt Rutler later this year.
