Video: "The Voice" star Blake Shelton receives the ACM Gene Weed Special Achievement Award

Oklahoma country music superstar Blake Shelton recently received the Academy of Country Music’s Gene Weed Special Achievement Award at the ACM Honors event in Nashville, Tenn.

The award acknowledges unprecedented, unique and outstanding individual achievement in country music. Check out Shelton’s gracious and funny acceptance speech posted below.

The Tishomingo resident stepped into his role on “The Voice” as a well-known figure in country music circles. Now, the three-time winning coach on “The Voice” a household name to millions of viewers who appreciate his lively personality, his honest approach toward aspiring talent and his camaraderie with the pop stars who are his fellow coaches on the show.

Past recipients of the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award include fellow Oklahoma native Garth Brooks, George Burns, Jeff Foxworthy, Willie Nelson and George Strait.

As previously reported, the fifth season of The Voice” debuts at 7 tonight on NBC. The show’s original coaching panel – Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Shelton – are reuniting for Season 5 after Xtina and Cee Lo took a break from the series during Season 4.

“The Voice” earned outstanding reality competition honors on Sunday night’s 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
