Young John Brooks bailed out the U.S. in its opening game of the World Cup on Monday.
Ghana tied the 1-1 game with a beautifully worked goal in the 82nd minute, but Brooks -- the 21-year-old German-American -- scored on a header in the 86th minute to secure three critical points for the U.S. ahead of games against Portugal and Germany.
The U.S. needed a victory against Ghana, as it's set to face tougher competition Sunday from Portugal and next Thursday against Germany. The Germans crushed Portugal 4-0 on Monday.
