MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed free agent defensive end Corey Wootton.

The Vikings announced the deal Friday, one day after Wootton and his agent tweeted that an agreement had been reached.

Wootton spent his first four seasons with the Chicago Bears. He was the player who injured Vikings quarterback Brett Favre with a hit in 2010 that prevented him from playing the last two games of his career.

The Vikings were looking for depth on the defensive line after splitting with end Jared Allen and tackle Kevin Williams. Wootton will be expected to be a backup at defensive end and give them flexibility by moving inside to tackle on passing situations.

Wootton has 11 career sacks.
