People always fuss over the details of a wedding, like what color the plates and linens should be and where to hang the flowers. But the most important part of the day, what people almost always remember, is the bride's wedding gown.

Most women have envisioned their wedding gown since they were little girls. For some, trends have changed by the time they are planning their wedding. Wedding dress styles have changed immensely since the 1800s, some styles more than others.

We asked readers to send in pictures of a vintage wedding gown. Some sent their own picture, while others sent in a picture of the dress their mother, grandmother or great-grandmother wore for their wedding. Pictures ranged from the 1890s to the 1990s, most with a unique story behind how the gown was chosen.

We received more pictures than we could have imagined. Not all pictures could be displayed in print, but all can be seen online. Here are some of the photos that highlight the prominent trends of each decade.
