The RMS Titanic and the Andrea Gail went down in the North Atlantic hundreds of miles and 79 years apart. Both disasters generated books and movies. Only one was titled “The Perfect Storm.”

Romney campaign benefits from Super Tuesday showing

Mitt Romney didn't seal the deal with his showing on Super Tuesday, but that likelihood was a long shot at best given the 10 states in play and the way they assign delegates. Romney clearly was the overall winner and remains the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Romney is best choice for GOP victory in November

Incumbent governors know a thing or two about winning general elections. One thing they know: Candidates must focus on issues that appeal to the most voters across the widest range of ideologies.

Mitt Romney is best bet to tackle the nation's No. 1 issue: the economy

Oklahoma joins nine other states Tuesday as the focal point of the race to be the Republican nominee for president. Our hope is that GOP voters here will make Super Tuesday exactly that for Mitt Romney, the candidate best equipped to unseat President Obama in November and get our nation's economy back on track.

Oklahoma GOP voters recognize Romney's upside

Mitt Romney's campaign gained steam this week with primary victories in Michigan and Arizona, and now he moves ahead to Super Tuesday where, in Oklahoma, he will face Republican voters who have mixed feelings about him.

Backers of Santorum should think ahead to November, and pause

Ronald Reagan typically included in his State of the Union speeches a reference to a constitutional amendment restricting abortion. And, typically, he went about his business, the next day and the days after, ignoring his own words.

GOP voters should focus on who has best chance in Nov.

Less than five weeks away is the Oklahoma presidential primary, when Republicans will help choose the GOP nominee to oppose Barack Obama. On March 6, the state will join 10 other “Super Tuesday” states. Between now and then, a primary or caucus will be held in eight other states. By then, we hope, Mitt Romney will have emerged as the clear choice for the nomination. Romney's front-runner status was on display with his convincing victory in Florida, but this is far from over.

Mitt Romney developing into clear GOP favorite

Another snapshot in the 2012 presidential race was taken Tuesday and Mitt Romney seems to be developing into the clear favorite in the narrowing Republican field. Romney was expected to do well in the New Hampshire primary. He didn't disappoint. To pundits, Romney's finish was of less interest than was the race for this week's latest Not Romney. Romney has gone from perceived front-runner to presumptive nominee as divisions within the party are starting to dissolve.

Iowa victory provides nice boost for Mitt Romney

Voices | Published: Thu, Jan 5, 2012 | Comment on this article Leave a comment

Mitt Romney's slim victory in the Iowa caucuses is a major plum, especially considering his approach in that state this year and caucus-goers' preferences in the traditional kickoff to the race for the White House.

The Oklahoman Endorsement

Mitt Romney is best man to restore nation's greatness

Voices | Published: Sun, Dec 18, 2011 | Comment on this article Leave a comment

In 2008, we were among the voices of the Heartland that warned of the perils of a Barack Obama presidency. These were voices crying in the wilderness. County by county, until all 77 were included, Oklahomans rejected the rhetoric of hope and change peddled by Obama. Voices of common sense, not anger and entitlement, spring from the Heartland. We must raise our voice again because America is in trouble.

America faces the greatest challenges of any in my lifetime. Our debt is now the size of our entire economy. If we don't change course in the near future, we will face an economic catastrophe far worse than our recent recession.

Michael Gerson: Mitt Romney's improbable achievement

Voices | Published: Wed, Jan 11, 2012 | Comment on this article Leave a comment

The political accomplishment of Willard Mitt Romney should not be underestimated. The moderate, technocratic former governor of a liberal state is poised to secure the nomination of the most monolithically conservative Republican Party of modern history.

Kathleen Parker: Clash of the nice guys

Rick Santorum clearly has an important national role to play, especially in the debate about who we are, but Mitt Romney remains the GOP's best bet.

Strong, bold endorsement from The Oklahoman

This Op-Ed endorsement from The Oklahoman editorial board I find to be extraordinary for three reasons: 1) It is from the South (though Oklahomans probably consider themselves middle America), 2) The opinion is rich with significant facts establishing Romney’s superior leadership skills and experience, and 3) The content is quite effusive in support of Romney as the board excoriates Obama by contrast.
Mitt Romney Central analysis

Des Moines Register: Mitt Romney is best to lead

Sobriety, wisdom and judgment. Those are qualities Mitt Romney said he looks for in a leader. Those are qualities Romney himself has demonstrated in his career in business, public service and government. Those qualities help the former Massachusetts governor stand out as the most qualified Republican candidate competing in the Iowa caucuses.
