Volunteers flip over pancakes in Oklahoma City
There were almost too many do-gooders to do any good.
I helped serve food at the Salvation Army’s Home Energy Aid Week pancake breakfast at the Masons’ Myrtle Lodge #145 in southeast Oklahoma City. The ninth annual Energy Aid Week is an effort to raise money to help seniors, the disabled and low-income families keep the heat — or air conditioning — and lights on.Multimedia

HOW TO HELP
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area Command provides aid to thousands of people each year. Because the group provides help to everyone from seniors and children to the homeless, many types of volunteers are needed. Helpers work in the food pantry, interview clients, attend community events and respond to disasters. Cooks are needed to prepare dinners in the Red Shield Kitchen. Volunteers also are needed to help at the emergency shelter and five senior centers. Assistance is especially needed during the holidays for bell ringing and Angel Tree campaigns.
