Oklahoma City is inviting residents to choose their favorite design from among four options with a vote that ends Friday. The signs will eventually be placed in city parks to advertise a new tobacco-free parks policy.

“These were designs that we came up with ... after doing research on other campaigns nationally,” city Parks and Recreation Department spokeswoman Jennifer McClintock said.
The city council voted in May to create the tobacco-free policy, but it can't be enforced because of a state law. The signs are intended to discourage smoking, but the city can't do anything about someone who chooses to smoke anyway.
The city Parks Commission voted last week to recommend option A, a sign design that incorporates the state's “Breathe Easy” anti-smoking initiative's logo. The logo was included with the state's blessing, McClintock said.
City staff will present the council with all four options and inform them of the recommendation from the Parks Commission and the results of the residents' vote.
