W.Va. Amateur shifts to early summer

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia Amateur golf tournament is going to be an early summer event at The Greenbrier resort.
West Virginia Golf Association Executive Director Ken Tackett said Monday the Amateur will be held June 21-24 in White Sulphur Springs.
The debut of the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic next July prompted the state Golf Association to adjust the schedule for the Amateur, which is normally held in early August.
That means the state Amateur will now be held three weeks before the state Open championship. Next year's Open is being contested July 14-16 at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane.
