TV writer Melissa Hayer and web editor Richard Hall chatted with readers Sunday during the midseason finale of "The Walking Dead." Below is a transcript of the chat.

Melissa Hayer 7:39 p.m. Welcome to "The Walking Dead" midseason finale watch party!

Hope everyone's as ready as I am for this episode to begin!
Melissa Hayer 7:42 p.m. Each episode of this season so far has been super-exciting - can't imagine what's going to happen tonight.
Richard 7:43 p.m. Hey, all! The midseason finale is here, and that's pretty exciting.
Melissa Hayer 7:44 p.m. Richard, is there a particular episode that's been your favorite so far this season?
Richard 7:44 p.m. Though, I must say, I'm not a fan of midseason splits. I'd rather have all 16 episodes at once, and I don't think I'm alone in that.
Richard 7:46 p.m. Hmmm my favorite episode... I'd say the fifth one, called "Say the Word." It's the one where Michonne finds the walkers/biters caged up in Woodbury, and she goes all Michonne on them.
Melissa Hayer 7:46 p.m. I think there are pros and cons on the split seasons, but it's kind of nice for the show to not be completely over and to have something to look forward to in February.
Richard 7:47 p.m. I think it's an important episode because it's a turning point for all of the characters: Rick's crew is dealing with their losses, meanwhile Michonne's suspicions are somewhat confirmed, Andrea gets suckered more and more into the Gov's lies, and we get further confirmation that the Gov and his people aren't on the up-and-up.
Richard 7:48 p.m. @Melissa: The problem with it coming back in February is that I'll be forced to choose which show to watch come late March, "Walking Dead" or "Game of Thrones."
Melissa Hayer 7:48 p.m. "Say the Word" was great - I can't wait to see what happens when Andrea finds out what the Governor's REALLY like!
Melissa Hayer 7:50 p.m. I have three other shows I like right now that compete against "The Walking Dead" - it is a pain when your favorites air at the same time!
Richard 7:50 p.m. Oh, she's going to feel completely dirty, haha. I wonder if she'll find out tonight. Also, remember back in season two when she almost killed Daryl when she shot at him, thinking he was a walker? I wonder if that was some kind of foreshadowing to something that happens tonight. Maybe Andrea helps defend Woodbury and ends up killing one of the good guys because her aim has gotten just a bit better.
Richard 7:51 p.m. @Melissa: Totally. While "Walking Dead" is on, "Dexter" takes the backseat and gets saved to the DVR. This season of "Dexter," though, has been a bit lackluster, in my opinion, especially after last season's cliffhanger finale.
Melissa Hayer 7:51 p.m. Interesting! I keep feeling like Daryl and Merle will be pitted against each other.
Richard 7:52 p.m. I'd love to see that. Merle's allegiance was questioned by the Gov last week, so maybe he'll be forced to prove which side he's on. Good thing is I don't think the show's writers or producers are stupid enough to have Daryl killed. He's the best thing on the show.
Melissa Hayer 7:53 p.m. I love "Dexter" - while I was disappointed that Deb found out about Dexter and I didn't care for the brother-sister romantic angle - they've managed to do a good job of getting me back on board.
Melissa Hayer 7:54 p.m. Yeah - surely they know better than to kill Daryl - but I hope neither Glenn nor Maggie die either tonight.
Richard 7:55 p.m. Something bad is going to happen tonight. I think Oscar, one of the prisoners-turned-good-guy, will die. Maybe something bad will happen to Rick. He's had a rough season.
Melissa Hayer 7:57 p.m. Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan have been REALLY good in season 3 - and Andrew Lincoln in the episode where Lori died - AMAZING!
Richard 7:58 p.m. Indeed. Yeun's performance last week was awesome. I think Maggie will survive this part of the season, and I think we've yet to see the best from her, but that's more due to character development than anything else. Lincoln's acting when he learned of Lori's death was moving. When he's looking at Carl, saying, "No, no, no!" It got to me.
Melissa Hayer 7:59 p.m. I don't think they could've chosen anyone better for the roles of Michonne or the Governor either than Danai Gurira or David Morrissey.
Melissa Hayer 8:00 p.m. The midseason finale's beginning!
Richard 8:00 p.m. And here we go!
Guest 8:00 p.m. almost time! the Gov sux! Glenn needs some revenge.........~peace
Richard 8:00 p.m. Morrissey wouldn't have been my first choice, but he changed my mind over the course of the past handful of episodes. He embodies the character really well.
Richard 8:01 p.m. And there's Tyrese, a fan-favorite from the comics.
Melissa Hayer 8:01 p.m. Cool!
Richard 8:01 p.m. In the comic, he's a former NFL star turned bouncer.
Richard 8:02 p.m. I want to see more out of Michonne's character. She does too much scowling and has communication problems, haha. I've no idea why she didn't tell Rick's group that she knew Andrea, or that Merle was in Woodbury.
Melissa Hayer 8:03 p.m. Because that would be too easy!
Richard 8:03 p.m. Haha I suppose it would be.
Richard 8:04 p.m. Very cool opening.
Melissa Hayer 8:04 p.m. Yeah - new group!
Richard 8:04 p.m. Yeah, the show could use some new good guys. Tyrese is a great character in the comics.
Melissa Hayer 8:05 p.m. What have you been most surprised about that's been a variation plotwise from the comics, Richard?
Melissa Hayer 8:06 p.m. Have "Walking Dead" comic book fans been please with the show's changes for the most part?
Richard 8:06 p.m. How they've handled the Governor. In the comic, you have no doubt he's a bad, bad guy. His interactions with Michonne are very different, but we may still see that in the show. Andrea is never separated from the group, and Michonne joins up with them at the prison. So, this season's been a bit different compared to the comic, for sure.
Richard 8:07 p.m. But as a fan of the comic, I'm thankful the show is different enough to keep me guessing. I think, overall, the fans of the comic are fine with how the show has been progressing.
Richard 8:07 p.m. The characters make the comic what it is, because neither it or the show are about the zombies — they're both about the characters. As long as the characters remain the same, or are improved, on the show, I believe comic fans will be satisfied.
Richard 8:08 p.m. Uh oh, his daughter.
Melissa Hayer 8:08 p.m. Penny!
Melissa Hayer 8:09 p.m. Mega-creepy!
Richard 8:09 p.m. I like how they've expanded on this from the comic. Gov has a zombie daughter and it's more about the shock in the comic than anything else. In the show, it serves a purpose because the Gov is obviously trying to bring her back from her affliction. Hence the tests and everything else.
Richard 8:11 p.m. Goodness, Glenn, what do you have planned? Haha.
Melissa Hayer 8:11 p.m. Exactly!
Richard 8:12 p.m. Ohhh making a weapon out of the walker's bone. I dig it.
Melissa Hayer 8:12 p.m. Very clever!
Richard 8:12 p.m. Maybe that's how Merle gets his: Stabbed by a walker's bone, turned into a zombie, Daryl puts him down.
Melissa Hayer 8:12 p.m. Rick and his group have made it to Woodbury.
Melissa Hayer 8:13 p.m. That would be a good ending for Merle.
Richard 8:13 p.m. Good dialogue between Gov and Merle.
Richard 8:13 p.m. But Merle knows he can't trust the Gov. Surely he does?
Melissa Hayer 8:13 p.m. Of course nothing will happen to Daryl.....
Melissa Hayer 8:14 p.m. I don't think he does know that he can't trust the Gov.
Richard 8:15 p.m. Haha Michonne is about to stab someone.
Melissa Hayer 8:15 p.m. Michonne's always in such a good mood.
Richard 8:16 p.m. This scene has a creepy vibe to it, the prisoner asking Beth how old she is.
Melissa Hayer 8:16 p.m. Creepy prisoner guy.
Richard 8:16 p.m. I guess we just found out what he's in prison for.
Melissa Hayer 8:16 p.m. Yes
Richard 8:16 p.m. Bahahahaha Carol.
Melissa Hayer 8:17 p.m. Oh my goodness!
Melissa Hayer 8:17 p.m. Ewwwww!
Melissa Hayer 8:17 p.m. Go Glenn and Maggie!
Richard 8:17 p.m. Oh this is getting good fast.
Melissa Hayer 8:17 p.m. Oh no!
Richard 8:18 p.m. I don't know why Maggie just doesn't shoot Merle. Had the shot!
Melissa Hayer 8:18 p.m. Yes!
Melissa Hayer 8:18 p.m. The writing is phenomenal on this show!
Richard 8:18 p.m. Yeah, it's quite good. It's much better than last season.
Melissa Hayer 8:18 p.m. I'm always on the edge of my seat!
Richard 8:19 p.m. After Frank Darabont fired the entire writing staff after season one, they hired freelancers to write individual episodes. I think that's what contributed to season two's disjointed and long feeling.
Richard 8:19 p.m. Not sure how season three's writing process is, but it has improved.
Melissa Hayer 8:20 p.m. I hope creepy prison guy runs into a zombie soon.
Richard 8:21 p.m. Maybe one of Tyrese's group will come across creepy prison dude trying to mess with Carol and/or Beth, and he'll be taken out.
Melissa Hayer 8:21 p.m. That sounds good, too.
Richard 8:21 p.m. It'd be a solid way to convey the notion of "we can trust these people" so we don't have two episodes of a split group in one location.
Melissa Hayer 8:22 p.m. yes
Melissa Hayer 8:22 p.m. Save them Rick!
Melissa Hayer 8:22 p.m. Yay!
Richard 8:22 p.m. Rick's awesome.
Melissa Hayer 8:23 p.m. Yes
Melissa Hayer 8:23 p.m. Will he face off with the Gov. tonight?
Richard 8:23 p.m. I have a feeling Rick will face the Gov's wrath, honestly.
Melissa Hayer 8:23 p.m. Oh no
Melissa Hayer 8:24 p.m. Here we go.
Richard 8:24 p.m. This is the first time we've seen Daryl shook up.
Melissa Hayer 8:24 p.m. Tell him, Rick.
Richard 8:25 p.m. Haha terrorists.
Melissa Hayer 8:25 p.m. Terrorists!
Richard 8:25 p.m. Gov is a good politician. Knows all the keywords to get the public all worked up and scared.
Melissa Hayer 8:26 p.m. I hope Andrea doesn't stay with him
Richard 8:26 p.m. Uh oh. Michonne's gonna find the Gov's daughter.
Richard 8:27 p.m. Andrea's gonna shoot someone. This is not good.
Melissa Hayer 8:27 p.m. Holy cow!
Richard 8:28 p.m. I think Daryl is planning on staying.
Richard 8:29 p.m. "I'll be right behind you" is a promise that is never kept in movies/shows.
Melissa Hayer 8:29 p.m. Yes
Richard 8:29 p.m. I knew Oscar would die.
Melissa Hayer 8:29 p.m. You pegged that one.
Melissa Hayer 8:30 p.m. Rick's gotta keep it together.
Richard 8:30 p.m. Dang, this episode is intense.
Melissa Hayer 8:31 p.m. I can't believe Andrea hasn't had a chance to see who's "broken into" Woodbury.
Melissa Hayer 8:32 p.m. There's no show as intense as "The Walking Dead," that's for sure.
Richard 8:33 p.m. Maybe Andrea heard Rick yelling for Daryl? Who knows. She'll find out soon enough!
Melissa Hayer 8:34 p.m. Poor Carl.
Richard 8:34 p.m. Yeah, Carl's got a rough life at the moment.
Richard 8:34 p.m. Now he has to man up and check out the screaming. He's been forced to grow up fast.
Melissa Hayer 8:35 p.m. Wow - watch out Carl!
Richard 8:35 p.m. Heck yeah, Carl to the rescue.
Melissa Hayer 8:35 p.m. Yes!
Richard 8:36 p.m. Pint-sized powerhouse.
Melissa Hayer 8:36 p.m. She's turning1
Richard 8:36 p.m. Tyrese just punched a zombie. Hahahaha how awesome.
Melissa Hayer 8:36 p.m. Uh-oh.
Richard 8:37 p.m. Finally, a different expression from Michonne.
Melissa Hayer 8:37 p.m. Ha Ha Ha - yes1
Melissa Hayer 8:38 p.m. Come on Michonne!
Richard 8:38 p.m. Oh daaaaang. This is something else.
Melissa Hayer 8:38 p.m. This'll be interesting
Richard 8:38 p.m. Michonne's gonna lob the lil girl's head off. No doubt about it.
Richard 8:38 p.m. Especially with the Gov unarmed.
Richard 8:39 p.m. Ohhhh dang.
Melissa Hayer 8:39 p.m. Man oh man!
Melissa Hayer 8:40 p.m. Wow!
Richard 8:40 p.m. Oh this is awesome.
Melissa Hayer 8:40 p.m. Go Michonne!
Richard 8:40 p.m. There goes his eye. I got a feeling.
Richard 8:40 p.m. YES
Richard 8:40 p.m. Oh dang
Melissa Hayer 8:41 p.m. Showdown!
Richard 8:41 p.m. Oh dang.
Richard 8:41 p.m. This is good.
Melissa Hayer 8:42 p.m. Check that out Andrea!
Richard 8:42 p.m. Haha Andrea you slept with the dude who collects zombie heads.
Richard 8:42 p.m. And had a zombie daughter.
Richard 8:42 p.m. And is now down one eyeball.
Melissa Hayer 8:42 p.m. oh my goodness!
Richard 8:42 p.m. So much has happened in 45 minutes.
Melissa Hayer 8:44 p.m. Yeah - surprised at subtle ending to Andrea and Michonne's face off.
Richard 8:44 p.m. Indeed.
Richard 8:45 p.m. Ack, enough commercials already.
Richard 8:47 p.m. Tyrese used a hammer in the comic. Glad to see it's in the show, haha.
Melissa Hayer 8:48 p.m. Carl's doing the right thing.
Richard 8:48 p.m. Yes he is.
Richard 8:48 p.m. Tyrese knows when to count his blessings.
Melissa Hayer 8:48 p.m. Nice.
Melissa Hayer 8:49 p.m. Ask him about the zombie heads!
Richard 8:49 p.m. We didn't see Daryl get away, did we?
Melissa Hayer 8:50 p.m. I'm not sure if they showed all of them leaving.
Richard 8:50 p.m. I don't think they did. I have a feeling Daryl stayed back so he could see Merle.
Melissa Hayer 8:51 p.m. He might've - if he didn't, he'll want to go back.
Richard 8:52 p.m. That's for sure.
Richard 8:52 p.m. This show looks interesting, "The Following."
Melissa Hayer 8:53 p.m. I've had a chance to see the pilot - it's awesome!
Richard 8:53 p.m. Oh cool, cool. I'm eager to see it.
Melissa Hayer 8:54 p.m. The first episode ends up totally different than what I expected - very cool.
Richard 8:55 p.m. Michonne is awesome.
Melissa Hayer 8:56 p.m. Yeah - Rick does need to let her stay with them.
Richard 8:56 p.m. Does that guy have Daryl's crossbow?
Melissa Hayer 8:57 p.m. Hmmmm
Melissa Hayer 8:58 p.m. Uh oh
Richard 8:58 p.m. Oh dang.
Richard 8:58 p.m. Daryl's gonna see Merle get killed.
Melissa Hayer 8:59 p.m. I think that's what's going to happen.
Melissa Hayer 8:59 p.m. Oh no!
Richard 8:59 p.m. This is awesome.
Melissa Hayer 8:59 p.m. Save him Andrea!
Richard 9:00 p.m. If they end this on a cliffhanger, I'm going to be livid, haha.
Melissa Hayer 9:00 p.m. Get ready to get livid1
Richard 9:00 p.m. Well, Daryl survives. We just saw him in a preview.
Melissa Hayer 9:01 p.m. Exactly!
Richard 9:01 p.m. That was a solid midseason finale.
Richard 9:01 p.m. But boooo to waiting a couple months for it to return.
Melissa Hayer 9:02 p.m. This episode was very good - hope the rest of the season is as good as the first part!

It'll seem like forever 'til it's back, I'm sure.
Melissa Hayer 9:03 p.m. But we'll be back with another watch party soon, so stay tuned!
Richard 9:03 p.m. Yeah, it will. But a solid ending to an intense episode.
Richard 9:03 p.m. I had fun! Thanks.
Melissa Hayer 9:08 p.m. I enjoyed it as well - thanks!

I'm ending the watch party now - check out lookatokc.newsok.com/tv for television news and to find out when the next watch party will be!
