"This is great; it's long overdue, said Robison, as he pointed to the name of his brother Ralph, one of more than 600 names of faculty, staff and students inscribed on the memorial because they have given their lives since World War I.

Robison wanted to tell his brother's story.

"He was a captain in the Air Force, in North Africa and shot down over Romania, Robison said.

Retired Adm. William Crowe said, "I can't tell you what an emotional moment this is for me.

The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under two presidents, Crowe said he spent a year in the armory just west of the new memorial, which is on the grounds of Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
