Waste disposal rates to increase at Edmond Transfer Station

Increased costs for transporting and disposing solid waste are the reasons behind a rate hike at the Edmond Transfer Station. The privately owned and operated center is located at 5300 Recycle Trail.

Rates at the Edmond Transfer Station have gone up because of operational cost increases.

“We have not changed our rates in the last four or five years,” said Clay Coldiron, with ETS Enterprises LP, the company that operates the privately owned and operated transfer station.

Additional costs of transporting and disposing of the solid waste are reasons for the rate increase, Coldiron said.

“Adjusting these rates will allow Edmond Transfer Station and its operator, Waste Management, to continue providing the high level of service the citizens of Edmond deserve,” Coldiron said.

The center, located at 5300 Recycle Trail, off Air Depot just north of Covell Road, is where solid waste is transferred from the regular collection trucks and combined into large semitrailer trucks to reduce the cost of transportation to the landfills for disposal.

Edmond Public Works Authority's solid waste services are the primary user, but the transfer center is open for use by others and offers a discounted rate for Edmond residents, who drive up and drop off their waste.

Cement, rock, dirt and other construction wastes are not accepted at the center because the debris could cause damage to collection and hauling equipment.

Edmond residents get a discount rate with their driver's licenses and a recent solid waste utility bill.

New Edmond rates are:

$5 minimum, which includes less than a half pickup load.

$12 for half of a pickup load.

$17 for a full pickup load.

$22 for a single axel trailer load.

The station accepts MasterCard, Visa and cash; checks are not accepted.

The transfer station is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
