Wayne Baughman became a wrestler by accident

A fight on the basketball court pushed the former OU standout and Olympian to the mat. He will be inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame on Monday.

Wayne Baughman is more than one of the most accomplished athletes in wrestling history.

Baughman has been a consummate representative of wrestling as a competitor, coach, and administrator since he took up the sport more than 50 years ago as a sophomore at John Marshall High School.

Coaching career: Air Force 1975-2007, USA Olympic team 1976 and 1980.

Claim to fame: Three-time All-American wrestler at OU, NCAA champion in 1962, 16-time national champion competing in freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Sambo.
