On Sunday, our energy coverage team of Adam Wilmoth, Jay F. Marks and Paul Monies was featured in The Oklahoman with the first leg of their two-week series on Energy Independence.

But on Wednesday, they will be live on with a Google+ hangout event at 9 a.m., featuring special guests to discuss the series and the topic of energy independence.

Wilmoth, The Oklahoman’s Energy Editor, will host the hangout from OPUBCO Studios. Jay and Paul will be joining from wherever they happen to be reporting from on that day.

Other experts from the industry will also be joining the discussion:

  • Steve Agee, dean of OCU’s Meinders School of Business.
  • Phil Crofts, marketing director of Dillon Transport, Inc., an Illinois-based trucking company that is converting its fleet to natural-gas powered trucks.
  • Troy Jones, a financial advisor for Access Financial Resources in Oklahoma City.

We hope you’ll make a point to stop by NewsOK/live on Wednesday morning. If you need a good reminder, check out our Facebook Event for the hangout.

And if you’re not familiar with our hangouts, drop by and watch our previous hangouts. We launched the hangout series about a month ago with a live discussion about domestic violence following a series produced by Juliana Keeping and Jaclyn Cosgrove. Since then, the sports department, led by Mike Sherman, has been featured on our hangouts each Friday morning.

We actually have quite a schedule of hangouts planned in October. You’ll see them each Wednesday and Friday throughout the month, and it’s all going to be available on

In the meantime, you can plan on reading the second leg of of the team’s series on energy independence. It will continue next Sunday – Oct. 7 – with a focus on the path to energy independence  and the potential impact on consumers.
