Weekend events to honor veterans
Veterans Day events will be held throughout the weekend across Oklahoma. Here are some of the offerings:
Blanchard
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the city of Blanchard will hold a Veterans Day parade on Main Street. The theme is “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans.”
Claremore
A flag retirement ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the J.M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum, 330 N J.M. Davis Blvd. The 11 a.m. parade begins at the Claremore Expo Center and will go east on Will Rogers Boulevard. For more information, visit www.thegunmuseum.com or call (918) 341-5707.
Clinton
A Veterans Day parade will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday beginning at 12th Street and Frisco and ending at Fourth Street and F. The honor guard will be from VFW Post 4465, American Legion 41 and Disabled Veterans.
Edmond
Veterans and Pioneers Honored in Quilt program at 2 p.m. Sunday at Edmond Library, 10 S Boulevard. Judy Howard will tell stories of heroism and sacrificial love of God and country from her book “Thanking Our Troops,” such as Vietnam veteran Jack Hayes, of Edmond.
El Reno
The El Reno Chamber of Commerce will hold a Veterans Day parade at 3 p.m. Dec. 2. The parade, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed due to expected bad weather.
Fort Gibson
National Cemetery ceremony, 2 p.m. Sunday, 1423 Cemetery Road. For more information, call (918) 478-2334.
Lawton
Veterans Day ceremony, 2 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Field of Honor, Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8700 Cache Road. There also will be an Armed Forces Day parade at 10 a.m. Saturday beginning at Cameron University and ending at Avenue C.
