"I had a prolonged talk with my dad, he was like, ‘You have to do what you have to do for the team to play,’ ” Jarka said. " ‘And you want to play, so this is what you have to do.’ ”
So Jarka committed to the move. He gained more weight for his final year.
"I have the body type to put on the weight,” said Jarka, who has already graduated with a degree in business marketing. "But it was a challenge putting on the weight (once), then having to do it again. (That) was kind of a setback for me.”
He overcome that mental setback to become a key member of OSU’s defensive tackle rotation in 2009. Jarka recorded 18 tackles, including five tackles for loss. His forced fumble against Georgia was one of the keys to OSU’s season-opening win last fall.
"I enjoy doing it for the team,” Jarka said. "I wanted to play, and that was the best way to play. That’s what I had to do, and I haven’t looked back yet.”
