Freddie Chadwell Jr., 40, of Welling was arrested on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill, Tahlequah police officer Brad Robertson said in a news release.
Officers were responding to reports of gunfire in the 500 block of E Ward Street about 5:50 a.m. when Sgt. Steve Young's car was shot. Young returned fire and officers were able to take Chadwell into custody without incident shortly after the shooting, he said.
The bullet lodged in the police car's steering column, narrowly missing Young. Chadwell is also accused of shooting into an occupied home, a parked vehicle and the door of his motel room, Robertson said.
