The U.S. Energy Department reports that 18 states added wind power in 2007.

Oklahoma was among those, adding wind power to its grid with a new project coming online during the year.

Today, the state has five operating wind farms generating close to 700 megawatts of power.

But we haven't seen anything yet. Various wind projects are under development today in more than 20 counties across the state that could generate as much as 12,000 megawatts of power once they are online, according to the Southwest Power Pool.

The agency, a regional transmission organization, is required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to ensure its area has reliable supplies of power, adequate transmission lines and equipment, and competitive wholesale prices of electricity.
