Today’s featured event:
Celebrate the release of local band Horse Thief’s debut full-length album, “Fear in Bliss,” at 8:30 tonight at the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, 329 E Sheridan Ave. Deerpeople and Pageantry also will be on the bill.
As previously reported, Horse Thief signed last year with Bella Union and released its well-regarded debut EP “Grow Deep, Grow Wild” in April 2013.
Originally founded in Denton, Texas, the band moved its members moved to Oklahoma City to attend the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO), from which they recently graduated. The band subsequently signed with The Flaming Lips’ management and soon came to the attention of Bella Union.
On becoming part of Oklahoma City’s music scene, guitarist-vocalist Cameron Neal told my fine colleague Becky Carman, “It was a pretty easy transition. I feel like we moved up here and started playing shows with other bands from ACM, and we met other bands through playing at places like the Opolis. It’s close-knit. When you meet one guy who plays in a band, you find out he also plays in three other bands. Everyone was welcoming and just looking to work together as a group of people.”
Becky did a great feature on the psychedelic rockers for The Oklahoman and NewsOK, and you can read it – and stream “Fear in Bliss” to boot – by clicking here.
