Jimmy Buffett is making a long-awaited return trip to Tulsa.
The “Margaritaville” singer and his Coral Reefer Band will play at 8 tonight at the BOK Center as part of Buffett’s “Songs From St. Somewhere” Tour 2013.
It will be the chief Parrothead’s first performance at the BOK Center.
“After celebrating our fifth anniversary of the BOK Center, we can’t imagine a better way to kick off another year of concerts than with Jimmy Buffett. It’s been nearly three decades since he played in the state of Oklahoma, so we know Buffett fans are going to be as thrilled as we are with this announcement,” said BOK Center General Manager John Bolton in a news release.
BOK Center officials said on Twitter (@BOKCenter) Wednesday that the concert is currently set to go on as planned, despite the wintry weather due to hit the state.
“At this point, the Jimmy Buffett concert is scheduled to occur as planned. Doors open at 7pm and the show is scheduled to begin at 8:10,” was the message Wednesday on the venue’s Twitter feed.
“If there is any change regarding the Buffett concert, we will notify all local media, post the info at http://bokcenter.com & social media.”
Buffett, 66, recently released a new record, titled “Songs From St. Somewhere,” on Mailboat Records. It debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top 200 albums the week of Sept. 7. The album, with 15 new songs plus a bonus track, was recorded this spring in various locales, including Key West, Nashville, Miami, St. Barts and London.
“Too Drunk To Karaoke”, the first single, is a duet with Oklahoma country music superstar Toby Keith, and the video was shot in Nashville. Buffett has been performing this song, as well as “I Want To Go Back To Cartagena,” “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Boat” and “Oldest Surfer On The Beach” on the current tour.
