NORMAN – Described as “One of the sweetest, most soulful and hauntingly beautiful duets in the business,” by Bluegrass Now Magazine, Anne and Pete Sibley will take the stage tonight at a Winter Wind Concert in the Norman Depot, 200 S Jones. Tickets are $15 for the 7 p.m. concert.
A husband-and-wife duo that met more than 20 years ago through music, they sing with simple accompaniment of guitar and clawhammer banjo. In doing so their fluid harmonies and songwriting are able to take center stage. Along with an easy going stage presence that leaves space for deep listening, Anne and Pete invite the audience to be part of a music experience.
The Sibleys’ music hit the national spotlight in 2009 with a blue ribbon finish in the “Great American Duet Sing Off” on National Public Radio’s A Prairie Home Companion. This prestigious accolade helped launch them onto the national music scene, where they have garnered much praise.
“There’s a purity and honesty to Anne’s singing that pulls you into every song. Add in Pete’s tasteful, melodic touch on the clawhammer banjo and those sweetly-locked harmonies that snuggle right up next to each other, and it’s pure duet magic” says Planet Bluegrass.
“Their harmonies are warm, tight and soulful; and their performances simple, poignant and unforgettable” Nashville Public Radio declares.
And the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts writes “For Anne and Pete Sibley, it is the simplicity of the music: the words, the vocals, the harmonies. The storytelling and intimate nature of their original songs has drawn fans and encouraged the husband and wife duo to keep delivering. They aren’t afraid of making music that is personal, paring it down, staying true to their instincts. They consider folk and bluegrass the people’s music, nature’s music, and they sing it freely and graciously.”
The couple’s CD releases include “Coming Home” (2009); “Will You Walk With Me” (2005); “Winter on the Great Divide” (2007); “Think of This River” (2004); and “Winter On The Great Divide: A Christmas Album.”
