Today’s featured event:

EDMOND – Watch Summerstock Productions, in partnership with the University of Central Oklahoma, stage Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me, Kate” at 2 p.m. today at UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater.

Performances continue at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. July 28.

The production mixes Shakespeare and the music of the great Cole Porter to create one of the most raucous, rowdy and enduring romances of all time on the stage.  “Kiss Me Kate” tells the story of the embattled Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi, formerly husband and wife, who are now playing Petruchio and Katharine in a musical version of the Shakespearean battle of the sexes, “The Taming of the Shrew.” Thrown into the mix are an ambitious showgirl, a Broadway hoofer with a gambling problem, and singing gangsters. The show features such classic songs as “Too Darn Hot,” “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” “Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” “So In Love” and “Always True to You (In My Fashion).”

“This season is shaping up to be record-breaking for Summerstock. We had our biggest crowds ever for ‘The Sound of Music’ last month, with three of the performances selling out on the main floor,” said Shannon Hurleigh, Summerstock’s executive director, in a news release.

“We’re so pleased the community is supporting us in such a huge way, and our cast can’t wait to share this production with them.”

Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.summerstockok.com or by phone through the Mitchell Hall Theater box office at 974-3375.  Patrons can also pay by credit card, cash or check from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Mitchell Hall box office at the northeast corner of University Drive and Main Street in Edmond. Tickets also will be available at the door.
