Today’s featured event:

Hear Americana/Western swing/country/jazz outfit Cow Bop from Los Angeles join forces with jazz vocal trio Duchess from New York City at 8 tonight at the Blue Door, 2805 N McKinley.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The show is part of Cow Bop’s annual Route 66 summer tour

Under the leadership of guitarist and band leader Bruce Forman, the L.A. outfit apparently spends its summers drifting along the Mother Road, playing the occasional club and theater and filling in the spaces playing whatever roadside attraction attracts Forman’s attention: a gigantic ketchup bottle, a ranch full of rabbits, a tow yard, a custard place. According to a news release, sometimes they’re invited. Sometimes they’re not. Sometimes the owners are delighted. Sometimes they’re not. They pull in, set up in 60seconds, play a few tunes, pile back in the van and head down Route 66. They’ve done it so many times the locals know them. The riders know them. The drifters know therm. A sheriff or two might even know them.

The band started its three-day Oklahoma stint Tuesday at the Coleman Theatre in Miami. After tonight’s OKC show, Cow Bop will head to Tulsa, where the group will play the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame on Thursday. The Tulsa show will be live-streamed here.
