Today’s featured event:
H&8th will celebrate the finale of its 2013 season with “truck-or-treating,” kindie rock, and the first Tulsa food truck to enter the Night Market lineup, from 6 to 11 tonight at the corner of Hudson Avenue and N.W. 8th Street in Midtown.
Presented by Fowler Toyota of Norman, H&8th Night Market is a monthly, family- and pet-friendly street festival built around a lineup of the city’s top gourmet food trucks on the last Friday of each month. There is no cost to attend. The event will return for the 2014 season in March.
At 6 p.m., families can pick-up their free “Happy Halloween from H&8th Night Market” “truck-or-treat bags” in front of Elemental Coffee, 815 N Hudson Ave., and fill them with treats by touring the lineup of food trucks and visiting neighborhood businesses and organizations.
Andolini’s Pizzeria enters the lineup this month as the first Tulsa-based food truck to participate at H&8th Night Market. Also confirmed are: Big Truck Tacos, Cafe Bella on Wheels, Cupcake Queen, El Reno Onion Burger, Frank’s Wurst, Hall’s Pizza Kitchen, Heo’s Kitchen, Jerky.com, Kaiteki Ramen, La Gumbo Ya Ya, The Loaded Bowl, Lalo’s I Love My Taco Chop & Grill, Off The Hook Seafood & More, Pizza 23, Roxy’s Ice Cream Social, Smokin’ Okies, Tacos El Patron and Taste of Soul Eggroll. Group Fly will join the lineup as the event’s first non-food truck.
Neighborhood restaurant Ludivine will serve from its special H&8th menu until 2 a.m., with open seating in the restaurant. Elemental Coffee will serve coffee and tea, COOP Ale Works will offer craft beer.
Spaghetti Eddie will kick-off the live music at 7 p.m. with a family-friendly set, followed by local Kindie rock duo Sugar Free Allstars at 8 p.m. Both acts performed recently at Wiggle Out Loud, Oklahoma’s first family music festival. Dr. Pants will bring nerd rock to the stage at 9 p.m., followed by Born in November at 10 p.m.
Ryan Drake, co-host of “No Fun Intended” on The Spy FM and KOSU radio, will DJ in front of Elemental Coffee from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. ScissorTale Salon’s monthly pop-up shop guest will be Dwelling Spaces.
Sponsors for H&8th Night Market include: Fowler Toyota of Norman, The Spy FM, Elemental Coffee, ScissorTale Salon, Ludivine, Oklahoma Farm and Food Alliance, COOP Ale Works, Thomas Productions and Barre3.
The Oklahoman Food Dude Dave Cathey reports that H&8th has experienced record crowds this year. No more than 700 people attended the event, which began in August of 2011, before this year. The smallest crowd it has produced in 2013 was 2,500 in March, topping out at an estimated 8,500 last month.
“I did not think it was going to get this big this fast,” organizer and Elemental Coffee co-owner Laura Massenat told Dave in today’s front-page story.
“I didn’t think it was going to have such an impact. I didn’t think of myself as a food truck advocate, I just wanted to have a great party.”
