Who replaces Mack Brown?

We’re all in agreement that Mack Brown’s days are numbered at Texas. Could be a week. Could be a month. But it’s hard to see him coaching the Longhorns after this season.

So, who coaches them next season?

Glad you asked.

Berry Tramel and I talked about it on this week’s Press Row. An email question submitted for our “Inbox” segment spurred the conversation, and there’s a guy who we both agree should be on Texas’s short list.

Art Briles.

Briles has built a winner at Baylor — Baylor! — where his Bears have a better record over the past few years than the Longhorns do. But as Berry so aptly points out, on-field success is not the only reason Briles should be a candidate. He talks Texan. He looks Texan. He acts Texan. Mack is a Southerner — born in Tennessee, played at Vanderbilt and Florida State — but he’s not a Texan. It would be interesting to see how Briles would fit in Austin.

Who else should Texas consider? Be sure to watch The Press Row.
