Who should be No. 1 draft pick?
Poll of fans shows ‘Other' at top of the list over Beasley and Rose

According to one prominent online survey, the player who should be selected first in next month's NBA Draft is "Other.”

An poll is asking visitors to make their No. 1 selection.

They must choose among Kansas State forward Michael Beasley, Memphis guard Derrick Rose and Other.

As of Monday night, Other held a comfortable lead with 42 percent of the vote.

Beasley was next at 36 percent.

Rose received the remaining 22 percent.

Ask this same question a year ago, and Other might have been shut out.

Last year was an "either-or” scenario. There was no Other.

The No. 1 pick was going to be either Greg Oden or Kevin Durant.

No poll necessary.

Oden wound up being the top pick, but was lost for the season to a knee injury he suffered one month before training camp.

Durant easily won rookie-of-the-year honors, yet somehow was not a unanimous selection for the all-rookie team.

(The award was voted upon by the league's 30 league coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own player. This means one NBA coach was ignorant or biased enough to think Durant didn't rate among the top five rookies, proving that coaches also should be drug tested.)

Though we anxiously await what Oden can do in the pros, future Oklahoma City resident Durant certainly was as good as advertised — perhaps better.

Judging from the posted poll, those participating in the survey evidently aren't enthralled with Beasley or Rose.

Adding to the intrigue, there is no clear-cut projection at No. 3 this year.

Today at 7 p.m. Oklahoma time, the NBA Draft Lottery will be held at the league offices in Secaucus, N.J., to determine the pecking order No.
