Why Iman Shumpert is still a Knick and not on the Thunder

Chris Broussard of ESPN.com said last week that the Oklahoma City Thunder was in pursuit of New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert at the trade deadline.

That was conditional on Shumpert's knee holding up to an MRI. Even after that, though, Broussard said that the Thunder were willing to part with a first-round draft choice this season to get the shooting guard.

But Broussard says the hangup with the Thunder-Knicks deal was the Knicks getting a "current player in return who could help them make a push for this year's Eastern Conference playoffs."

Two games does not make a season, but the Thunder has come out of the All-Star break struggling on their perimeter defense. Broussard was backed by Grantland's Zach Lowe on Twitter, who also confirmed that OKC wanted that perimeter help.

Can confirm OKC offered their 2014 1st-round pick for Shumpert, as @Chris_Broussard reports here: http://t.co/UeL5LgU5k8

They didn't get it in the end. At least the Clippers didn't either.
