WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — The Wilmington City Council has agreed to finance a $35 million privately built and operated renewable fuel power plant.

The City Council agreed Thursday to finance the project, which was designed by Honeywell International. Honeywell will get an up-to 20-year agreement to construct and operate the plant, which will burn landfill gas and sludge vapors to produce electricity.

Honeywell guaranteed the city $16.7 million in savings over current electricity and sludge disposal costs over 20 years.
