Penn Square to add shoe store

A new shoe store is preparing to open this summer at Penn Square Mall. The Walking Co. is planning an 1,100-square-foot store in the lower level J.C. Penney wing in the former Origins location, a mall spokeswoman said. Construction is expected to begin March 6 with the store open by June 1. The Walking Co. has more than 200 stores nationwide but none in Oklahoma. The retailer carries brands such as UGG, Dansko, Keen, Sofft, Born and others.

Chick-fil-A will open new store

Chick-fil-A plans to open its newest Oklahoma City location in typical fashion — with a free food giveaway that attracts hundreds of fans to camp out before the opening. The store, at Interstate 40 and MacArthur, opens Feb. 28. Chick-fil-A will give the first 100 customers a one-year supply of Chick-fil-A meals. People can get in line starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The location is the first of three in Oklahoma that Chick-fil-A plans to open this year.

Michaels in Midwest City to close

— Michaels craft stores is closing its Midwest City location at 7515 SE 15. The company said it evaluates new and existing store locations annually and makes decisions to open or close; 50 new Michaels stores opened nationwide last year.
