Grocer announces grand opening

Supermercado Morelos has opened at 621 N Moore Ave. A grand opening celebration is planned for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Food and drink samples will be offered to shoppers and a mariachi band will perform from noon to 1 p.m. The grocery store, located off Interstate 35 between NW 5 and NW 8, stocks Hispanic food products and mainstream grocery products and has a full service meat department, bakery and deli. Tables are available for in-store dining. Hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Custard chain opens in Norman

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is open at 2401 W Main. The 3,300-square-foot restaurant serves steakburgers, shoestring fries and custard, and offers a drive-thru and indoor and outdoor seating. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. “It really feels like Norman is excited to have us,” franchisee Bob Rasberry said. “The finished restaurant looks amazing, and we've hired a committed team who share our enthusiasm for delivering a high quality dining experience.” The location employs about 60 workers.

MIO Coalition adds member

Gibson Meat Co. has joined the Made in Oklahoma Coalition, a group of state food and agricultural manufacturers. Lawton-based Gibson Meat provides beef, chicken and pork products and frozen foods to Oklahoma restaurants. They join more than 40 other companies in the coalition, which provides marketing and outreach opportunities for its members.

Charity receives donation

Local Dillard's stores have donated more than $25,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities as part of a chain wide fundraiser selling copies of the Southern Living Christmas Cookbook. Oklahoma stores contributing include Penn Square Mall, Quail Springs Mall, Enid, Shawnee, Norman and Lawton. Nationwide, Dillard's contributed more than $1.2 million to the charity this year. It was the fifth time Dillard's offered a special custom edition of the cookbook during the holiday season.
