STILWELL — A 88-year-old woman was found dead in her home early Saturday, and a woman has been jailed on a murder complaint, authorities said.
A 911 call was placed about 1:30 a.m. from Virgie Murphy's home, about a mile south of Stilwell in Adair County, Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said.
When sheriff's deputies arrived, they found Murphy with visible trauma to her body and Tonya Watie, 20, of Stilwell, inside the home. It does not appear that Watie and Murphy knew one another, Brown said.
Watie was booked into Adair County jail on complaints of first-degree murder and first-degree burglary, she said.
Investigators were following leads in the case and did not release who made the 911 call.
The state medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of Murphy's death, Brown said.
